Virtual World: Do's and Don'ts 2 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 1
I've put together a list of the main do's and don'ts which I believe will make a virtual world successful. I'll compare it with vSide since I believe it had the most potential.

Do's
  • A smooth and easy way to control walking and running.

  • Most virtual worlds make walking very difficult and uncustomizable, making it quite frustrating. vSide on the other hand, did a great job on it.

  • Being able to invite a friend and be rewarded for it.

  • A great way to promote a virtual world and get it populated. I believe promotion was one of the biggest downfalls of vSide.

  • Have a progression system.

  • This keeps people playing and gives them the name that they deserve.

  • Add a fun but difficult way to earn pluspoints.

  • If earning pluspoints is too easy, no one will pay for realbux. Trivia most likely contributed to vSide's termination.

  • Have the latest music playing everywhere you go for everyone to hear.

  • This makes the game have an memorable and unbelievable atmosphere. Without music, virtual worlds are dull.

  • Have a variety of interactions.

  • After socializing, you begin to get bored and want to have some form of entertainment with your friends. I believe vSide lacked the ability to sustain entertainment for everyone as a whole.

  • Allow the ability to have cliques.

  • If there will be stores that we must visit in order to buy our clothing, each store should be organized properly to contain the type of clothing we are looking for. I had to search through many stores in vSide in order to find any type of urban clothing.

  • Have the ability to watch youtube, tune into a shoutcast, and play your own mp3's.

  • If this wasn’t what made vSide the ultimate virtual world, then I don’t know what did.

  • Have appealing avatars.

  • I can't seem to get into a virtual world which has poorly designed avatars. Sometimes it's good to be judged.

Don'ts
  • Make useless features that the majority ask for.

  • Sometimes you need to take matters to your own hands and know what’s best for your company. vSide decided to bring in "vdrinks" by popular demand which lasted for only a few days and was an utterly failure.

  • Have a user generated world.

  • We need a world with a theme, that is what makes it appealing. Not everyone has the ability to create 3D models. This is what made vSide different from all other virtual worlds.

  • Force users into paying for the virtual world.

  • Playing for free should be a grind, don't punish us further. Limitations is a way of forcing us to pay, which only makes players do the opposite. I gave much respect to vSide for not trying to take my money out of my pocket.

I like most of it. But they need to take a little money from the users in order to stay i business. i hope all these users aren't so bitter at vSide closing they won't spend another dime on a Virtual world. Then they will end up exactly where vSide is, Closed.

  • Make this virtual world like "The Sims".

  • Some people want to just have fun and hang out without worrying about their hunger.

I actually agree with everything you suggested

I understand that not everything should be free. Vside made those who did not purchase vbux, wait for quite awhile in order to even come close in finishing a room. Those who did, didn't have to. It's like paying a little extra for the express lane to get on the rollercoaster without having to deal with the line.

Most of the stuff you've said makes sense... except for that tidbit about the drinks. Believe or not, that WAS a hit. LGA increased in population by 200.

Also (sorry to be a bitch here):

Dont's

  • Spell vSide as "Vside."

It gets annoying to see a trademarked name spelled wrong...

I pretty much agree with everything you posted. I really thought the Drinks were fun for like an hour then I was like Ok Screw this. xD

Okay Time limit is just stupid and a way to steal your money. I'm not going to waste my money for a costume that's only going to last like a day. Time Limits are okay on stuff like if we had the piercings and the hair salon styles but not for costumes.

For the first few days? Awesome!

Dont's

  • Be upset because a feature you promoted for, was a failure.

It's annoying to be put up with it, and it will be a also a failure convincing me...

We don't need mods at all.. the last 8 days of Vside with no mods went smoothly no one got killed if someone is bothering you simply log off or put the fool on ignore.. it's common sense and simple.. Moderator3 slapped my ass with a suspension for telling Kutsumo what was really on my mind and wishing death on RedRoses children okay yea that was a lil harsh but all they had to do was put me on ignore!

Moderators abuse their power I think everyone can agree with me on that!
